'Heat map' shows which areas of Britain enjoy the spiciest curries

After Bradford was named the Curry Capital of Britain for the fifth year running, a map has been released showing which regions of Britain enjoy a spicy curry and which prefer the milder variants.

According to the map developed by Hari Ghotra, Kent, Essex, West Yorkshire and Lancashire are the heat-handling kings of Britain, while Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales all prefer milder curries.

The data was collected by monitoring the location of social media posts that mentioned names of curries. These were then given a spice rating and were then collated to give each area a score out of 1000.

Lancashire came in at first place with the red hot score of 874, while the Outer Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland, came in with a score of just 1.

While the majority of the curries collated in the study were household favourites such as kormas, jalfrezies and vindaloos, the hottest curry in Britain comes in the form of the Widower.

The dish was devised by the Bindi Indian restaurant in Grantham, Lincolnshire, which consists of 20 Naga Infinity chillies.

One Naga Infinity chilli is 200 times hotter than a jalapeno and records six million on the Scoville scale.

Creating Chocolate Shavings From Ordinary Kitchen Utensils

Everybody loves chocolate. Scientific studies also show that dark chocolate those that were not heavily processed and do not contain additional sweetening and flavorings is actually beneficial to individuals who have diabetes and heart ailments. The wealth of knowledge regarding the many health benefits of chocolate has been capitalized by food experts and chocolate lovers all over the world. As an average homeowner, you do not need fancy equipment to enjoy the richness of dark chocolate. Using your ordinary kitchen gadgets a knife and a cheese grater you can reap the full health benefits of dark chocolates while at the same time immersing yourself in its velvety richness. Call it the highest level of indulgence right in the comfort of your own kitchen.

For starters you need a solid block of dark chocolate and water. First place your block of dark chocolate on a double boiler and slowly melt it over low heat. If you do not have a double boiler, you can use saucepan then place a heat-safe mixing bowl in it. Make sure the saucepan is filled with just enough water to accommodate the mixing bowl. Place the dark chocolate on the mixing bowl and watch it slowly melt away. Make sure to thoroughly stir the chocolate until it is smooth. Just before the entire chocolate melts, turn off the heat or remove the chocolate from the heat and allow it to momentarily cool.

Slowly pour the melted chocolate onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Spread it thinly using the backside of a tablespoon. If you have a spatula, better. Use the free edges of the baking sheet to tap on the chocolate surface to release air bubbles. Let the chocolate harden for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you cannot wait that long, you can place it in the refrigerator or even the freezer. Just remember to take it out before it turns into one solid chunk of frozen chocolate. Once it has hardened, you can now take your kitchen utensils to carve out shavings off this delectable piece of chocolate.

Using your knife, place the blade at a 60 to 80 degree angle and scrape the surface of the chocolate towards you. Make sure to apply even pressure so that your shavings will form a beautiful curl. You can also use a pastry scraper or even a spatula if you like. For longer curls, scrape the entire length of the chocolate. For short curls just scrape off significantly smaller portions. Using the cheese grater, just take the chocolate and gently rub it across the fine holes for a dusty chocolate texture. If you like larger shavings, use the larger holes of the box grater.

You can use these chocolate shavings for a variety of your desserts like ice creams, yogurts, cakes, and even juices.

Expert Suggestions For Juicing Your Way To Better Health

Juicing is one of the best ways to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables, particularly if, like most people, you find it difficult to get all your daily recommended servings. Read this article for some tips on how to effectively juice your way to great health!

When you drink juice to improve your health, the most effective ingredients you can use are leafy greens like spinach, parsley, chard, collards, kale and beet greens to name a few. The ratio of greens to anything else should be around 50-70%, with other sweeter fruit and/or vegetables added for flavor. Juices made entirely of fruits would tend to be too sugary and might cause unhealthy blood sugar levels. A very good recipe book will give you juicing recipes that do not add any sweeteners but still taste delicious.

A glass of juice can be an entire meal. Once you have made a few juices and know how much foods you have to have for just a single glass, you'll be amazed! A pound of produce can make a cup of juice!

Juicing is also a great way to add healthier foods to your diet. For instance, so many kidsjust don't like vegetables. You can combine fruits and vegetables into a great tasting juice that the pickiest kid will love, and they'll never know they're eating vegetables.

Always keep the juicer in sight instead of stored away. This is a simple but highly effective trick that actually results in you using your juice appliance more!

You can get rid of the pulp in juice by using a coffee filter. This method is inexpensive but very time consuming. A juice machine separates the pulp automatically and quickly - t's worth the investment.

Making fresh juice and then storing it in the refrigerator is possible, but not the best option. Drink your fresh juice as soon as possible otherwise it loses color, taste and nutrition.

If you have to spend an excessive amount of time cleaning you juice appliance, you will be far less likely to use it. Clean your juicer as soon as you are done using it since pulp sticks to the machine when dry, making it much more time-consuming to clean.

If you suffer from diabetes but still wish to reap the benefits from juicing, only juice vegetables until you talk to your doctor. Fruit juices can cause a rapid rise in your blood sugar level. It is a good idea to keep a close eye on how much fruit you are juicing in your mixes to allow for your medical needs. Vegetables can supply you with the nutrients you need without the risk of sugar spikes.

Pay close attention to the cues your body gives you about the juices you drink. If a particular juice causes queasy feelings or churning in you stomach, look at its ingredients to figure out if anything is new to your diet. For instance, fresh beet juice can be a shock to the digestive system. Work up to foods that your body is not used to by adding just a little at a time.

To get the most health benefits from fresh juices, you should understand that the longer juice sits, the less nutrients are present. The longer amount of time that you wait to consume the juice, the more degradation of nutrients will occur.

They are bitter, so use leafy greens in conjunction with sweeter fruits or veggies, like carrots, berries and citrus. A great recipe for a delicious juice is a mixture of cranberries, blueberries and strawberries. Be creative and come up with your own favorite combinations.

Masticating juice machines are, in our judgement, the best juicers for the price. Juice presses produce more nutritious juice but they are far too expensive and time consuming to clean. Masticating juicers also allow you to mill, grind, and even make tasty frozen deserts. These features will increase the variety of the ingredients in your juices.

Children can easily rinse produce while an adult starts chopping it. Getting children involved in making juices is a wonderful way to introduce them to healthier food.

Don't go crazy mixing lots of different fruits and vegetables when making your juices. A great juice blend does not require many ingredients. Using just two or three often results in a fabulously delicious taste such as carrot and ginger or apple and spinach.

As you already know, juicing is great for anyone who wants to improve their health while at the same time avoiding having to directly eat vegetables. Begin to enjoy the benefits of deliciousness, and body-building nutrition, when you apply the great juicing tips you learned right here.

How To Serve Cocktails

A large part of being a good bartender is  knowing how to serve cocktails that people actually want to buy and keep coming back for.

Cocktails are no longer just “girly drinks” as they use to be thought of. Cocktail making has become an art form and a way to showcase spirits and liquors.

While most bartenders and mixologists that are serious about their work go through rigorous training to learn how to make a good cocktail, there are certain universal rules that apply to most cocktails. Keep these in mind and you’re likely to be successful in making your cocktails a hit with customers.

  1. Keep it Chilled

Expert bartenders say keeping everything chilled is crucial to a good cocktail. Most cocktails taste best with a lot of ice in the glass and in the shaker. With certain cocktails a frosted cocktail glass also looks great and enhances the ‘chill’ of the drink.

  1. Choosing the Right Garnish

While the taste of your cocktail is the most important element, the garnish is also important. Cocktails are just as much about the visual as they are about the taste. Garnish your cocktails well and make sure the drink is a feast for the eyes first. Don’t overdo the garnish and try to link the garnish to the actual ingredients of the drink, for example drinks containing apple flavours can be garnished with a slice of apple.

  1. Serve in the Right Glassware

With certain cocktails the right glass is aesthetically pleasing while with others, the right glass may even affect the taste of the drink. Learn all you can about glassware and how to serve drinks. For example drinks with aerated mixes or juices are served in a high ball glass and cocktails containing champagne are served in a flute. Brandy cocktails are usually served in a balloon glass.

  1. The Fresher the Better

If the cocktail calls for fruit juice, its best to use fresh juices but ensure you prepare them before the rush hour. Fresh fruit juices will enhance the cocktail and give them a fresher kick. They also tend to be thinner than other processed juices, which make them lighter mixers.

  1. Know How to Build the Cocktail Correctly

There is a reason why cocktail making follows a specific order, it ensures the best flavour. The process is usually

  • Hard spirit first

  • Liqueur or enhancer next

  • Mixer comes after

  • End off with bitters if needed

  • Garnish as desired

Whether you plan on becoming a professional bartender or just want to work in a nightclub or bar until you start university, you need to be eligible to serve drinks in Australia. Eligibility to serve drinks in a licensed venue in Australia involves completing Responsible Service of Alcohol training.

This training is the government’s way of ensuring everyone who serves alcohol is aware of how to do so in a socially responsible manner and what the laws says about alcohol service, in this way addressing problematic drinking behaviour.
